The first 500 entries will receive a 2011 Mauna Kea Aluminum Coin at the KTA Courtesy Desks.
The purpose of the Mauna Kea Coin Contest is to enhance awareness of the convergence between astronomy (such as night sky, constellations, and a telescope) and the Hawaiian culture of Mauna Kea (such as plants, animals, insects, the environments, and natural history) among K-12 students on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. K-12 students will include both astronomy and Hawaiian themes related to Mauna Kea in their design and express their aloha and respect for the impressive mountain.
