Overall Comments from the Judges:

Mahalo Mauna Kea Coin Contest Committee for your invitation to be on the judging panel for the contest. I was very impressed to all the entries, and it was also fun to see a lot of good artwork. Thank you for giving our future generation a chance to express their idea of the kind of work in science/astronomy atop of Mauna Kea. (Ali‘i Kimo Pihana, Hawaiian cultural practitioner)

Excellent entries by all of the students! It was wonderful to see how students incorporated different views of Maunakea form Hilo, Kea‘au, Waimea, and elsewhere. It showed diversity in ways of experiencing the mountain. There were some very original design and wonderful artistic elements on the drawings. I also appreciate the messages of reaching for the stars, continuing one’s education, caring for the land, and exploring the universe. (Shawn Laatsch, planetarium manager at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai‘i)
